"Microsoft’s Cortana Faces Uphill Battle Winning Over Developers"

Google and Alexa, So Fetch
I don't get the chance to do very much editorial so when I do, it's always fun to stretch those conceptual and illustration muscles. I submitted 3 concepts with the core idea being that Microsoft's Cortana is lagging behind the more popular Google Home and Amazon's Alexa in the virtual assistant game. Originally Apple's Siri was in the mix as well, but the final article ended up focusing more on the three mentioned's relationship to consumers.
The first concept was a race track with Cortana being in last place for the finish line. Pretty straight forward. 2nd played on the logos being part of a weather interface with poor Cortana's logo being the only one behind a rainy, sad cloud. And the 3rd I went the personification route since basically these assistants may be virtual but they actually talk to you! So I considered that a great touch point to show Google and Alexa as besties with Cortana longing to be part of that group. Even though a yearbook may seem outdated or hard to connect to a tech crowd, it was a great way to emphasize popularity and success vs. always being on the outside looking in.
