"Sunny is the best hairstylist in her seaside town of Friendly Falls, and the 10-year-old is also a natural leader who thinks every problem can be solved with determination and a bit of creativity!" -- Nick Jr
Sunny is a super cute character with a great group of friends and as you can see, they have some bomb.com hair. After my work on the logo a few years ago, it was finished in-house by the great team at Nick Jr. but what I loved about the project was the chance to explore some hairy letters!
As you can tell by the final logo next to Sunny up there, we really explored how we could bring some of her style to the lettering and the immediate response is, of course, to mimic her hair. It allowed for contrast with the yellow stripe running through the S cap as well giving me room to play with the language of hair: tendrils, curls, wisps, etc. Some other concepts pushed toward letter substitution and bringing in more of the hair styling icons, like one option I had her hair dryer blowing back the hair on the S cap which I thought was hilarious!
The Sunny Day property also has great online hair tutorials for their young audience. I helped out with some backer plates for the Style Files logo lock-up as well as the logo itself.
Laura, the suuuuuper amazing AD, made sure to note that we didn't want to rehash the hairy lettering from the title in this particular logo lock-up. It had to be fun and chunky but it needed to have a visual contrast without losing the bouncy rhythm when it's tucked in with the title lettering. I also did some pattern and icon explorations that didn't make it to the final rounds but I love love the SD logo and I'm always thankful I get to work on so many different projects that lie within these huge properties that have a mega ton of moving parts!
